Your Inpatient Stay

Comfort, Compassion and Care

The modern 12-bed inpatient area at Community Memorial Hospital offers a comfortable, quiet, and healing environment, staffed by professional caregivers who provide personal and attentive care.

The inpatient area is designed to meet a variety of needs – including pediatric, adolescent, adult and hospice care. There is also a room specifically fitted for patients needing a negative pressure environment.

Individual patient rooms are designed with your comfort in mind. Rooms include a private bathroom and shower with space for family to remain close.

The care of our inpatients at CMH is managed by a hospitalist, who is a medical provider who specializes in the care of patients who are hospitalized. Our hospitalist focuses on your recovery, while communicating and coordinating necessary care with your primary care doctor and other medical specialists who may be involved in your care.

Skilled Care

CMH's services include swingbed / skilled care. Our inpatient department provides care to patients who need skilled nursing care, which is care for patients who no longer need round-the-clock medical care but can benefit from hospitalization to speed recovery from an illness or injury.

Skilled care can provide short-term assistance for those who need further medical care before returning home or to a long-term care setting. Dedicated physical, occupational, and speech therapy may be part of a skilled care stay and is conveniently provided by our expert therapy staff. Patients in need of intravenous therapy may also benefit from skilled care.

Hospice Care

CMH's inpatient department also provides hospice care through contracts with UnityPoint Hospice, Heart of Iowa Hospice, Cedar Valley Hospice and St Croix Hospice.

Respite and acute hospice care is available for individuals who need specialized care for chronic and end-of-life services.

Special Services

When your hospital recovery includes a need for rehabilitation, cardiac/pulmonary rehab, or physical, occupational or speech therapy, these services are conveniently located within our hospital. Other services under our roof include lab and radiology, which includes general X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI and nuclear medicine.

Dining Choice

Fresh, nutritious, and attractively served meals are a valuable part of recovery from illness or surgery. The dietary department prides itself on serving meals that are both delicious and nutritious.

Patients select their own menu each day, from a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items that are available. Dietary considerations mean that low-sodium, low-calorie, liquid, and soft meals are available depending on your physician's recommendation.

Visitor sandwich or full-meal trays may be ordered for your family. Communicate with your nurse to call in your request. For payment, we accept cash or checks.

For each child 14 years or younger, one parent or guardian receives a complimentary meal when present.

Spacious Rooms

The spacious inpatient rooms provide access to phone, email and Internet. A nearby visitor's lounge offers comfortable surroundings for family members, and there are vending machines with varied selections for visitors.
